Die AG BioGeoOmics integriert modernste instrumentelle und methodische Ansätze, um dynamische Wechselwirkungen von Molekülen in der Umwelt zu untersuchen. Solche molekularen Wechselwirkungen umfassen natürliche Prozesse (z. B. Metabolismus, Bildung und Dynamik von natürlichem organischem Material) sowie anthropogene Einflüsse (Wechselwirkung biologischer Systeme mit Chemikalien).
Zentrale Plattformen der AG BioGeoOmics sind ultrahochauflösende Massenspektrometrie (FT-ICR MS) und bildgebende Massenspektrometrie (MSI), die durch biogeochemische und chemoinformatische Methoden unterstützt werden. Wir nutzen diese Werkzeuge, um chemische und biologische Transformationen von organischen Molekülen, ihre räumliche Lokalisierung in Geweben und die Identifizierung von Metaboliten und unbekannten Chemikalien und Transformationsprodukten in komplexen Gemischen zu erforschen.
Die Methoden und Konzepte werden in verschiedenen Forschungsbereichen angewendet:
- Ultrakomplexe Mischungen: Identifizierung von Quellen und Transformationsprozesse von natürlichem organischen Material (DOM) auf Landschaftsskala.
- Identifizierung von Transformationsprodukten von Chemikalien und deren Wechselwirkungen mit natürlichem organischen Material (DOM) in technischen und natürlichen Systemen.
- Non-target FT-ICR MS: Methodenentwicklung und Einsatz von stabilen Isotopen in Metabolomik und Biogeochemie.
- Bildgebende Massenspektrometrie biologischer Systeme: Aufnahme und Verteilung von Chemikalien, primären und sekundären Metaboliten in Pflanzen und Toxikologie-Modellsystemen.
- Direkte Analyse von organischem Material auf Partikeln und Feststoffen mittels Laser Desorption/Ionisation
