Forschungsschwerpunkte
Meine aktuelle Forschung liegt auf der Anwendung ultrahochauflösender Massenspektrometrie (FT-ICR MS) im umweltwissenschaftlichen, biologischen und biogeochemischen Kontext.
Mein Forschungsschwerpunkt ist der schnelle und hochsensitive Nachweis von Molekülen in komplexen natürlichen Gemischen wie z.B. natürlichem organischen Material (NOM) und biologischen Metaboliten. Neben der analytischen Methodenentwicklung nutze ich auch chemoinformatische Methoden zur Datenauswertung.
Zurzeit arbeite ich an der Entwicklung und Anwendung von Methoden zur Markierung mit stabilen Isotopen. In Kombination mit der hohen Spezifität und Sensitivität der FT-ICR Massenspektrometrie ermöglicht dies molekülspezifische stabile Isotopenanalyse (CSSIA) zum Einsatz in Metabolomik und biogeochemischer Forschung.
Neben der Identifizierung von Molekülen aus komplexen Gemischen ist auch die räumliche Lokalisierung von Molekülen (Chemikalien, biologische Metabolite) in festen Proben, z.B. in Pflanzengeweben oder strukturierten Umweltsystemen wie Böden oder Sedimente ein wichtiger Forschungsschwerpunkt. Hier nutze ich (matrixunterstützte) Laser-Desorptions / Ionisations-Massenspektrometrie-Bildgebung (MALDI-MSI), um laterale Verteilung von Analyten zu untersuchen.
Ich leite die Arbeitsgruppe BioGeoOmics im Department Environmental Analytical Chemistry am UFZ.
