Research

My research focuses on investigating, optimizing the heterologous expression, and improving enzymatic activity of a methyltransferase (MTaseI). The gene of MTaseI has been previously identified in a strain of Dehalococcoides and the enzyme could use Acetyl-CoA as the methyl donor. This enzyme is of unique interest to the chemical and pharmaceutical industry as MTaseI is a good substitute to non-chemo-and regioselective methylations reactions routinely performed in these types of industries. Furthermore, MTaseI is part of a more intricated protein system consisting of B12-Shuttle proteins and MTaseII. Therefore, the activity and affinity of METaseI will be additionally investigated in the presence of the whole protein complex.
