Administration & Services
In addition to the scientists and doctoral researchers driving our research, more than 400 people work to ensure the smooth running of administration, technology, science and science management at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). Science would not even be possible without these people.
They coordinate, design, plan, calculate, inform, communicate and take on a wide range of other tasks. – A varied and demanding activity for which we are always looking for competent employees.

The technicians at the UFZ work in a wide range of areas to support our scientists and cover a large number of demanding tasks:
- Typical tasks in the (chemical, physical and/or biological) laboratory are developing, modifying or implementing a wide variety of analytical, physical and biological methods as well as supervising the equipment and laboratories.
- Field activities range from sampling to installing and monitoring sensors and other technologies, to operating measuring platforms (e.g. drones, boats, various vehicles).
There are also countless other activities in our technicians' day-to-day work, covering the broad spectrum of tasks at the UFZ. As a technician at the UFZ, you should have a creative and solution-oriented approach, because your work also involves developing new methods or adapting existing ones. Your skills in imparting knowledge to doctoral researchers and postdocs are also required. Our technicians' wealth of experience provides tremendous support for new scientific projects at the UFZ.
The UFZ IT department has five core competencies: Providing network infrastructure and communication services, technical support for all employees, developing individual commercial and administrative solutions, managing research data and providing high-performance computing systems for data analysis.
Not only do we promote digitalization with this broad range of activities, but we also especially provide scientists with ideal infrastructure for conducting future-oriented research. Our goal is to establish an agile and team-oriented work environment that provides the necessary space for individual development.
