Sarah Stevens
Sarah Stevens joined the Department of Cell Toxicology as a postdoctoral researcher in October 2024. She is part of the CoModHaz project, which focuses on modernizing chemical hazard indicators. Her work includes advancing the bioanalytical test battery and validating novel hazard indicators through a case study on plastic-associated chemicals.
She earned her PhD in September 2024 from the Norwegian University of Science and Technology, where she contributed to the EU-H2020 LimnoPlast project on microplastics in European freshwater ecosystems. Her research explored endocrine- and metabolism-disrupting chemicals leaching from plastic food packaging, integrating effect-based in vitro tools with chemical non-targeted analysis to assess chemical mixtures. As part of this project, Sarah undertook a research stay at the University of Gothenburg, studying the impact of plastic extracts on zebrafish embryos, and at Fraunhofer UMSICHT, focusing on life cycle assessment.
Sarah holds a Master’s degree in Ecology and Evolution from the Goethe University Frankfurt and a Bachelor’s degree in Biology from the Technical University of Dresden. Her Master's thesis examined the impact of a wastewater treatment plant and highway runoff on a small river using effect-based tools. For her Bachelor's thesis, she determined the bioconcentration factor of a superhydrophobic UV filter in zebrafish embryos.Researcher unique identifiers:
