Dr. Roman Gunold
Roman works as a technician at the UFZ Leipzig. In the department Exposure Science, he is responsible for the preparation and evaluation of field sampling campaigns within the nationwide monitoring of pesticides in small agricultural streams. His scientific interests are the identification and the removal of water pollution with focus on organic substances.
Roman studied environmental sciences at the University of Greifswald and started his PhD at the Department of Ecological Chemistry of the UFZ in 2010. After he collected some experiences in the management of groundwater remediation projects, he organized Citizen-Science-workshops at the Science Shop Potsdam (machBar Potsdam). Those projects involved urban food production with aquaponics and DIY-sensors for water quality measurements. He is the co-founder of the FabLab Leipzig, a place where people of all ages and educational backgrounds may join for projects on making and science.
