Isaac Tanui

Isaac is a PhD student at the Department of Effect-Directed Analysis since March 2021. He is involved in the SENTINEL -II- project which is funded by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The primary focus of his work is to understand the contribution of organic micropollutants to population dynamics of Schistosoma host snails in rivers within western Kenya. The project is implemented in collaboration with International Center for Insect Physiology and Ecology (Icipe, Kenya), KEMRI and Moi University.

Isaac completed her bachelor’s and master studies in Biochemistry at the Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology in 2019. His master thesis was on factors contributing to susceptibility of selected maize seed varieties to Sitophilus zeamais where he applied LC and GC / MS techniques for analysis. His work revealed the presence of unique volatiles in some maize seed varieties capable of attracting the maize pest.
