Alain is a Ph.D. student at the Departments of Effect-Directed Analysis and Computational Biology since July 2023.

He is involved in identifying source-specific contaminant fingerprints in waste and surface water using high-resolution mass spectrometry (HRMS) data. The main focus of his work is to adapt existing pre-processing methods for HRMS data to combine datasets from different instrumentations and analysis times. Additionally, he is developing and validating computational workflows to identify source-specific fingerprints based on existing HRMS datasets originating from various wastewater sources.

Alain studied Civil Engineering at the Lebanese American University and conducted research on designing wastewater treatment plants for his bachelor's thesis. He holds a Master's degree in Environmental Engineering from the Technical University of Munich. For his master's thesis, he developed a novel approach for estimating the water quality ecosystem services of Danube Floodplains using remote sensing-based machine learning methods.
