This week, we were delighted to welcome Prof. Yankai Xia and colleagues from Nanjing Medical University in China here at the UFZ as part of the Healthy Planet Lecture series! In his talk, Prof. Xia presented innovative approaches to health risk assessment in relation to exposure to agrochemicals, based on a variety of strategies. Thank you very much for the inspiring discussion!
Congratulations to our researcher Dr. Tobias Kretschmer on receiving the research fellowship of the German Society for Andrology (DGA) and ANDROLABS for his project on Immunophenotyping and Analysis of Environmental Chemicals in Ejaculate to decipher Idiopathic Causes of Male Subfertility and Infertility and the Underlying Mechanisms. He was awarded on the occasion of the 11th DvR Congress!
We are delighted that IMMU's Gene Expression Laboratory is the first laboratory at the UFZ to be successfully certified according to the LEAF standard (Level Bronze)! Our technical assistant Beate Fink has shown particular commitment and has already implemented many sustainability measures. In doing so, she has not only obtained the bronze certificate for the laboratory, but has also ensured greater sustainability in the department's laboratory operations in general!
At the 17th International Congress of Toxicology (IUTOX), held on October 15–18 2025 in Beijing, Prof. Ana Zenclussen presented the ongoing projects and research activities of our department in the session Reproductive Toxicity. The discussions opened up exciting new perspectives for future collaboration!
Congratulations to our scientist Dr. Sergio Gomez-Olarte for receiving the ITCASS Immunotoxicology, Speciality Section Award for his abstract "PFAS mixture effects on single-cell CyTOF-based profiling of human primary immune cells: transitioning to new approach methodologies." at EUROTOX 2025 in Athens!
Prof. Ana Zenclussen has been awarded the American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award and was elected as the new Vice President of the American Society for Reproductive Immunology (ASRI). We warmly congratulate Ana Zenclussen on her award and recognition of her work!
The American Journal of Reproductive Immunology Award is the highest award presented by the ASRI to a senior level investigator who has made outstanding and lasting contributions to the area of reproductive immunology.
We are delighted that the review paper "The ENDOMIX perspective: how everyday chemical mixtures impact human health and reproduction by targeting the immune system" (Gómez-Olarte et al., 2024) was selected as "Editor's Choice" in the journal Biology of Reproduction and highlighted for the cover of the current issue!
