Research
My research is focused on the application of constructed wetlands and other near-natural water treatment technologies for removal of organic pollutants, especially pharmaceuticals, pesticides, industrial and household chemicals. I am particularly interested in the interactions of microbial community with wetland medium and plants, which allow to enhance microbial degradation of organic pollutants in near-natural water treatment systems. I am involved in the following projects:
AWARE - Assessing the fate of pesticides and Waterborne contaminants in Agricultural crops and their environmental Risks (Water JPI Project);
ELECTRA - Electricity driven Low Energy and Chemical input Technology foR Accelerated bioremediation (EU-China research initiative);
PhD college FATE - Fate and effects of antibiotics from sources to sinks.
