Research Interests

My long-term research goal is the further development of the parameterizations of the distributed mesoscale hydrologic model (mHM) so that it takes into account the subgrid variability of the land-vegetation-atmospheric interactions at high-resolution from local to global scales. It is expected that this multiscale model should be able to make robust and seamless predictions of streamflow, evapo-transpiration and soil moisture, among other water fluxes and state variables. Addressing this challenge is key to reduce the predictive uncertainty of mHM and thereby providing better predictions of extreme hydrological events under changing climatic and environmental conditions.

My current research interests focus on monitoring, modelling and forecasting of droughts and floods from regional (German Drought Monitor) to global scales (global seasonal forecast), to further develop the multiscale parameterization of land surface and hydrologic models.
