Research interests

I am interested in laying the groundwork for predictions in complex microbial communities, especially for understanding how microorganisms are involved on the bioremediation of contaminated terrestrial environments. In order to achieve that, my current research is based on the exploration of microbial “Big Data” (metagenomic datasets) from public repositories. That involves the development of novel bioinformatics pipelines, standardization of metadata from biological databases, multi-omics data integration and meta-analysis. Recently I have developed a metadada database for terrestrial metagenomes (TerrestrialMetagenomeDB). Currently I am  developing techniques to explore the microbial diversity by using genome-resolved metagenomics, for instance  applying microbial ecology on metagenome-assembled genomes beyond species level.
