We are looking for a highly self-motivated candidate with a strong interest in single cell analysis and microbial ecology. Our research in the Flow Cytometry group at the Dept of Environmental Microbiology at UFZ focuses on developing schemes to optimize biotechnological processes based on individual microbial cell states and functions. In PROMICON, we aim to move to near-automated analysis of natural or artificial microbial consortia via high-throughput and high-dimensional cytometric data. Bioinformatics evaluation tools must be routinely applied and may require further development. Open interest in and application of sequencing technologies and other omics methods is required. Population ecology stratagems and models will be the backbone of data interpretation and should be actively used for process control and optimization.
