Research interests

My interest in research and science blossomed during my undergraduate studies, when I had the opportunity to participate in a project monitoring bacterial resistance to antimicrobials currently on the market. During the project, I performed various tasks, including statistical data analysis to correlate phases of the food production chain with the severity of resistance, application of molecular biology techniques to identify resistance and virulence genes, and verification of conjugation assays to investigate the spread of these genes of interest.

However, it was through executing and writing my final project, where I assembled and annotated bacterial genomes and constructed a pangenome, that I discovered the magnitude of bioinformatics and became fascinated by the countless possibilities it offers for interpreting and analyzing biological data.

Through this project, I observed that large-scale biological data are generated across diverse categories, which shaped my research interests and directed me toward structuring databases, analyzing biological omics data, and investigating possibilities for optimizing laboratory routines in search of biotechnological solutions.

I am currently pursuing my master's degree in Bioinformatics at UTFPR, with an emphasis on database development and the application of machine learning for unconventional annotation of proteins with biotechnological potential.
