Boden-Pflanze Wechselwirkung
Boden-Pflanze-Interaktion beschreibt biologische, physikalische und chemische Prozesse, die an der Grenzfläche zwischen Boden und Wurzeln, dem unterirdischen Teil der Pflanzen, ablaufen.
Aus Sicht der Pflanze als sessilem Organismus dient all dies dazu, die Beschaffung knapper Ressourcen zu optimieren bzw. toxische Substanzen mit minimalem Energieaufwand zu vermeiden, um Wachstum und Fortpflanzung zu ermöglichen. Aus der Perspektive des Ökosystems wirken sich diese Prozesse nicht nur auf die Nettoprimärproduktion und die Zersetzung aus sowie auf die Quantität und Qualität des Lebensraums für Mikroorganismen, sondern auch auf den Transport von Wasser und Chemikalien im Boden. In der Arbeitsgruppe Boden-Pflanze-Interaktion entwickeln wir Methoden, um in situ für die Rhizosphäre und den Gesamtboden die Dynamik folgender Faktoren zu untersuchen:
- physikalischen Eigenschaften (Lagerungsdichte und -struktur),
- hydrologischen Eigenschaften (Verfügbarkeit und Verteilung von Wasser) und
- chemische Eigenschaften (Konzentration und Verteilung von Nährstoffen und toxischen Elementen)
- bzgl. Veränderung im Mikrobiom unterhalten wir zahlreiche Kooperationen um Methoden zur Erfassung der Interaktion Boden-Mikrobiom-Pflanze zu etablieren.
Im Labor- und Feldmaßstab versuchen wir zu quantifizieren, wie sich Veränderungen dieser Eigenschaften auf das Pflanzenwachstum und den Transport von Wasser und Chemikalien auswirken. Wir arbeiten an verschiedenen Fragen im Zusammenhang mit (i) der effizienten Nutzung knapper Ressourcen (Wasser, Nährstoffe), (ii) dem Nährstoffkreislauf für eine nachhaltige Produktion (Si), (iii) der Verfügbarkeit von Schadstoffen (As), (iv) Veränderung der Bodenstruktur durch Wurzeln, (v) Zusammenspiel von Pflanzen und Mikroben, (vi) dem Beitrag von Wurzeln zum Kohlenstoffeintrag und der Kohlenstoffspeicherung in Böden.
