iCROSS Reactive Transport Modelling Workshop I:
Radionuclides Model-Chain
Background and Scope
The workshop is dealing with modelling radionuclides migration in the near field of a repository in clay rock. This activity is part of the iCROSS project (Integrity of nuclear waste repository systems - Cross-scale system understanding and analysis) funded by BMBF and Helmholtz Association of German Research Centers.
The workshop is based on the open source modelling platforms OpenGeoSys-6 (OGS) and PHREEQC v.3 and it is divided into two half-days:
Day 1: The first day includes a short introduction to reactive transport processes with focus on radionuclides migration. It will be explained the conceptual and numerical model used in the model chain. Set-up software prerequisites for using OGS, pre- and post-processing tools will be explained with simple transport examples.
Day 2: The second day is dedicated to more complex mechanistic models of the model chain. The OGS6-PHREEQC and the OGS-6-look-up table approach will be introduced. Finally the Model-Chain Jupyter Notebook will be explained.
