Guidelines on Confidentiality and Respectful Interaction
The UFZ Queer Network aims to be a safe space for exchange, networking, and mutual support. This is based on treating one another with appreciation, respect, and mindfulness.
The network brings together people from diverse fields of work, roles, and positions. We want to be mindful of potential hierarchies and dependencies and handle them sensitively so that an exchange as open as possible can take place on an equal footing.
Queer people are not a homogeneous group. Experiences and perspectives can differ and overlap based on, among other things, gender, sexual orientation, racial identity, disability, age, social background, religion, or worldview. We approach this diversity with openness and respect and strive to interact in a manner that is sensitive to issues of discrimination and power dynamics.
Everyone decides for themselves what they share about themselves and how visible they wish to be within the network. We respect names, pronouns, and self-identifiers, and avoid making assumptions about others’ identities. What is shared personally or confidentially within the network stays within the network. No one will be identified or outed to others as queer or as part of the Queer Network UFZ without their explicit consent.
We respect personal boundaries and will not let discriminatory, derogatory, or boundary-violating behavior go unaddressed. At the same time, we view the network as a space where questions, learning, and personal growth are possible.
*Queers = All people who understand themselves under the metaphorical umbrella QUEER such as e.g. gay, lesbian, trans, inter, non-binary, asexual people.
Friends = People who support queer people and content/demands as allies.
