Research Project
My PhD project is part of the second phase of the priority program "Rhizosphere Spatiotemporal Organization - a Key to Rhizosphere Functions" (SPP 2089). In this overarching project, research groups from different thematic areas are collaborating with the aim to uncover spatiotemporal patterns in the rhizosphere of maize (Zea mays) and to gain a better understanding of the underlying mechanisms. My project (Rootgenes2) mainly focuses on maize root gene expression in order to reveal mechanisms how maize roots adapt to changes in soil environment. Special attention is given to the interplay between root gene expression, structure and function of rhizosphere microbiome, exudate production, soil parameters, plant nutrient levels and root hair formation.
