2025.05

We welcome Maria Veit to re-join the group for her Master thesis project, after two international internships. The project will focus on electron transfer pathway engineering of Pseudomonas putida, with collaboration with Pablo Nikel/Danil Volke at DTU Biosustain.

2025.04

Congratulation to Jianqi Yuan for his 2nd 1st-authored paper, published on ChemSusChem. This paper did a comparative analysis of three different types of mediators in BPV, and provides experimental basis for future mediator design.
We welcome Hannah Schön to continue the ecModel project as HIWI in the group.

2025.03

Congratulation to Hannah for achieving the best possible 1.0 score for her Master thesis project on enzyme-constrained genome-scale modelling work. Well done!

2025.02

Our project partner made a great progress in the structural insights into the substrate recognition of ginsenoside glycosyltransferase Pq3-O-UGT2. The paper is published on the Advanced Science.

Congratulation to Hans for his second research paper, published on The Plant Journal. This paper zoomed into the different electron sources for EET under different environmental and physiological conditions, and mostly confirmed the coupling of photosystem to EET requires NO involvement of carbon turnover.

Congratulation to Jianqi Yuan for his first 1st-authored paper, published on ESE. The paper explains how photosynthetic electrons flow towards external sinks, and has attracted high interests on the social media, e.g.TechXplore, Solar Daily, etc.

2024.12

The group has grown to over 10 person during 2024, and nice group photo was taken before the last group meeting on 04.12.2024. After the group meeting, the group visited the Leipziger Christmas market and had a nice dinner together, as the tradition since 2023.

Much welcome Ms. Rui Li to start her PhD funded by CSC, and Laura Pause and MG Abdul Quadir to start their postdoc funded by the BISON project. Best wishes to their upcoming adventures!

Dr. Bin Lai gave an invited talk to the 15th Global Industrial Microbiology Congress & Metabolic Engineering Summit 2024, about how we can use synthetic electro-microbiology approach to shape the industrial biotechnology.

The very first paper from the whole BioPV4H2 project team is finally online. Thanks ChemCatChem for the invitation, and congratulations to all and particular Vincent for the great achievement.

The AG BPV successfully had its 2nd annual symposium at CNB/CSIC, Spain. Great science discussion with the whole project consortia to shape the future research plan.

After being listed as #TopDownloadArtile, our review paper about the mediator in BES system was recognized also as the #TopCitedArticle by ChemElectroChem.
We warmly welcome Ms. Hannah Schön from TU Dresden to join the group for her Prac and Master thesis project.

Dr. Lai gave an invited seminar to the Biochemisches Kolloquium at the Institute of Biochemistry, Uni Leipzig
Dr Lai joins the editorial board of New Biotechonology (Elsevier), which is the official journal of the European Federation of Biotechnology and Asian Federation of Biotechnology.

2023.11

The AG BPV group joint the 1st BioKreativ Forum in Berlin organized by PTJ/BMBF, meeting with other NWG groups and presenting our project.
We warmly welcome Ms. Jana Gaibler joining the group for her PhD research for the next 4 years. The junior research group reaches its first big milestone to have the group complete!!!

2023.09

Congrats Liuyan (guest PhD student from DTU, Denmark) successfully published her work during the research stay on Bioresource Technology. A record-high current output was achieved, and a 1st ever solely electrode-power microbial growth was realized.
We warmly welcome Ms. Alicia Mier-Jimenez joining the group for her PhD research. We wish her the best luck and success in the following 4 years.

Dr. Bin Lai was elected as the Speaker for the PoFIV platform project HYPRO
Dr. Bin Lai visited Tianjin University, China and gave an invited talk. The trip was funded by the CDZ.

2023.06

Congrats Hans Schneider for his 1st research paper published on Electrochemistry Communications! Well done!
Dr. Bin Lai delivered a talk on Metabolic Engineering 15 conference in Singapore regarding our concept of using biophotovoltaics for sustainable hydrogen production.

2023.04

The 1st Annual Symposium of AG_BPV was successfully held in KUBUS, Leipzig on 24-25.04.
AG_BPV has its very 1st group meeting on Thursday 06.04.2023. Wish this will be a good kick-off for the group to start its adventure for the next years.

2023.03

Dr. Yu Bai starts her project in our group from today (15.03). Finally the SynBio work is to be kicked off.
Important benchmark: we welcomed our first PhD student Vincent to start his phd in the group. Wish him a good success and happy journey for the next 4 years!

Our invited paper by BIOSpektrum is online, introducing our research concept of biophotovoltaics.

Ms. Maria Veit (Uni Leipzig) comes back to our group again as a HIWI and will continue her bachelor thesis work of developing a CRISPRi to tune the photosynthetic electron flow.

Ms. Liuyan Gu joins our group as a guest PhD student from DTU, Denmark. She will exploit the growth and metabolic profiles of her Lactococcus strains using our electro-fermentation platform.
