Scientific interest

Dr. Yves Zinngrebe investigates steering options for a sustainable human interaction with biodiversity and nature. He has a special interest for transformative governance and integrative policy making.

In his work he has analysed biodiversity governance in Peru, and has worked on governance options for "Trees on Farms" in Peru, Honduras, Uganda, Rwanda and Indonesia. The DEFORESG project traces changes in land-use dynamics in the Amazon biome to changes in related governance systems. Another focus is the analysis of impacts of the EU Common agricultural policy. His special interest is the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) and its national implementation. In this regard, Yves Zinngrebe has been leading the scientific projects supporting the updating process of the German National Biodiversity Strategy for three years. Currently he is coordinating the EU Horizon project "REinforcing Science-Policy INterfaces for integrated biodiversity and climate knowledge and policies" (RESPIN) related to the work of the International Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) and the Intergovernmental Platform for Biodiersity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES).He is further co-leading the Earth System Governance Task Force on Governance of Nature and Biodiversity and has been a Coordinating Lead Author (CLA) for the global IPBES report on transformative change.
