Databases

Web of Knowledge/Web of Science

The  Web of Science is an interdisciplinary scientific database that is used for literature research in the natural sciences, social sciences and humanities. It provides access to millions of specialist articles, conference papers and other scientific publications from quality-checked sources. A central function is the citation data analysis: users can see how often and by whom a particular article has been cited, which provides information about its scientific influence. The database offers a wide range of search options, for example by keyword, author, institution or subject area. It also enables citation networking by making references between academic works visible - both backwards (cited sources) and forwards (citing works). The integrated “Journal Citation Reports” module allows journals to be evaluated using key figures such as the impact factor. Finally, search results can be exported and seamlessly integrated into reference management programs, which facilitates further processing.

Scopus

Scopus is a citation and abstract database for scientific journal articles, which has been provided by Elsevier since 2004.

It comprises a total of 50 million entries and provides abstracts and citations from over 21,000 peer-reviewed journals from more than 5,000 international publishers. In addition, 359 million web entries and 24 million patents can be found in the database. The entries cover the fields of natural sciences, technology, medicine, social sciences, arts and humanities.
The UFZ currently has test access to the database.
