Library Service

You can order books and articles from journals that do not belong to the UFZ’s library stock as an interlibrary loan. As this literature is ordered from other partner libraries, we cannot say when your literature will arrive.
From experience we can only say that it could take anything from 3 days up to 3 weeks. Articles on the other hand often arrive on the same day that they are ordered. Interlibrary loans (books and articles) that are not free of charge will remain at the library lending desk for collection. In this case you will receive a notification email from us.

Please log into the system (=computer login from LDAP): Log into interlibrary loans

Reading room orders
If you want to lend a book from the main reading room that is not already on loan, then you can order it through UFZ catalogue . The book will be waiting for collection at the library lending desk on the next working day.

Closed stack orders
You can order books or journals from the UFZ’s closed stack. You can find this stack by searching in the UFZ catalogue in the field "closed stack".
Link: Closed stack and book orders

Closed stack times are at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Some 30 minutes later the journal will be ready for copying or the book ready for lending at the library lending desk:

You can also order books from the closed stack through UFZ catalogue. The advantage of ordering through WebOPAC is that you are immediately able to see the lending status of the book: UFZ catalogue

We are more than happy to order books for you to purchase. Before you order a book please make sure that it is not already part of the UFZ’s stock: Search

A compilation of all those publications by UFZ-employees that were published during their scientific work at the UFZ is a main responsibility of the library as well as the preparation of these for the internet.
Due to data maintenance processes within our central publications management system, we can guarantee that your bibliographic data will be subjected to comprehensive quality control, standardisation and validation. Bibliographic data is updated with the structural data of our center, ensuring that your own publication lists as well as those of your department and all projects will be available at all times.
Publications from the time before you worked at the UFZ are not included in this directory.
Please also note that poster contributions that did not appear in conference proceedings will not be included.
Please send a copy of your publication (in print or PDF form) with the respective POF-number to publikationen@ufz.de .

You can search for available publications by using the web publisher.

The publications lists on the "POF-sites" are created according to the publications directory. The directory is also used to create the publication lists on the department home pages. The publications directory is also the basis for various evaluations.

How can I enhance the profile of my publications, myself or my institution?
(Source: Uni Vienna, Team Bibliometry)

• Publish in sources and journals that are peer-reviewed
• Publish in journals with an impact factor that is above average for your field.
Ensure that you provide the correct affiliation in a standardised form in your publication.
• Check whether your name is correctly entered in the most important databases (Web of Science, Scopus) and make any necessary amendments.
• If possible, group together all of your entries in the database, e.g. through Researcher ID in WoS (or the feedback button in Scopus).

In Wikipedia ("Bibliometrics", October 2015) the term "bibliometrics" is defined as follows:

"Statistical bibliometrics is the quantitative search of publications, authors and institutions such as libraries through statistical analysis. In this way, for example, it is possible to determine empirical regularities in the growth of publications, the distribution of topics in journals and the number of citations of a journal article (citation analysis)."

Bibliometrics is primarily used for the quantitative evaluation of scientists and scientific institutes, whereby the impact factor and the citation analysis play a major role.
