PPNW 2020
Workshop on Physical Processes in Natural Waters
15th - 18th June 2020
The Workshop on Physical Processes in Natural Waters is bringing together specialists in physical limnology. The workshop aims at intensive exchange between the participants and hence tries to offer sufficient space for discussions between scientific talks. Usually meetings are held at annual intervals with a number of around 40 to 50 participants. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, a meeting in person will not be possible in 2020. The meeting planned for 2020 in Vancouver, Canada at UBC has been re-scheduled for the time period July 26th - 30th, 2021.
However, we felt that the platform for exchanging new ideas and findings at a specialists platform was missing. Hence we decided to hold the workshop PPNW 2020 as a video conference in a much reduced form. We try to hold the workshop with live presentations transmitted as video conference to participants who have indicated their interest. We will form blocks of about 4 talks (i.e. about 2 hours including discussion) during the previously planned time span 15 - 19th June 2020.
The workshop participation as presenter and / or listener will be free of charge.
Presentations
Presentations are held live on video conference software. The presentations should be aimed at 15 minutes of presentation followed by about 15 minutes of discussion with the audience. Scientists wishing to present are advised to indicate so by 25th May noon (Berlin time = UTC+2). Please send a short abstract to Bertram Boehrer. Please follow the rules for the abstracts (template see at the end of this page: you may use your submitted abstract for Vancouver 2020).
Posters
Those who had submitted posters for presentation can opt for a flash presentation. The exact format will be decided according to interest.
Participation
Colleagues, who would like to participate as listeners only, must indicate their interest by email to Muhammed.Shikhani@ufz.de no later than Wednesday 10th June 2020 to receive the login details for the sessions.
Programme
The lectures are schudeld over the tperiod 15th - 18th June 2020: We hold blocks of two to three hours. The lectures start: Mon 17:00, Tue 10:00, Wed 17:00, Thu 17:00 (Berlin Time = UTC+2). The detailed programme is available as pdf at the end of this page.
Plenary Talk
We could win Colm Caulfield of the Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics of the University of Cambridge for a plenary talk on turbulence. His talk on Monday 15th June 17:00 (Berlin Time = UTC+2) is entitiled: Open questions in turbulent stratified mixing: Do we even know what we do not know?
