I am a doctoral researcher studying extreme wildfire events from a spatially compound perspective within Europe. In the past, fire risk has been typically analyzed at a regional scale; however, the impacts of compound events, where multiple wildfires occur simultaneously across different regions, can be dramatic. These compounded impacts are especially critical in the context of shared resources, as under the European Protection Agreement. In this project, I aim to analyze the spatial dependencies of wildfire risk using the Fire Weather Index, focusing on both historical data (through climate reanalysis) and future projections (using SMILEs simulations).
I am part of the Compound Climate Extremes research group led by Dr. Emanuele Bevacqua.
Research Interests
• Compound weather and extreme climate events• Spatial dependencies of wildfires in Europe
• Impacts of climate change on wildfires events
• Fire Weather Index (FWI)
• SMILEs (Single model initial-condition large ensembles)
