On 08th September, the Department of Hydrogeology is pleased to host Dr. Yanchen Zheng from the University of Bristol for an exciting lecture:
Toward a National Understanding of River Chemistry: Analyzing Water Quality Baselines and Controls across Great Britain from the new CAMELS-GB-Chem dataset.

Join us to explore how this groundbreaking dataset is reshaping our understanding of water quality across the nation.

M. Bayani Cardenas visits UFZ

Birdsall-Dreiss distinguished lecturer M. Bayani Cardenas visited UFZ Leipzig on the 30th June 2025.

Portrait Bayani Cardenas M. Bayani Cardenas is a hydrology professor in the Department of Earth and Planetary Sciences of the Jackson School of Geosciences at the University of Texas at Austin. His research seeks to understand flow and transport processes across different hydrologic settings, water quality and quantity problems, and scales, using a combination of theoretical, computational, and observational methods.

Around 35 people attended his lecture “Insights on groundwater renewability from age and residence time analysis” in the UFZ lecture hall in person or online. Before his lecture, the hydrogeology team had the opportunity for an extensive professional exchange. We would like to thank Bayani Cardenas very much for his visit and the time he took for us.

Long Night of Sciences Leipzig: Get to the bottom of groundwater

The Department of Hydrogeology took part in the Long Night of Sciences on 20.06.2025 with an experience stand where interested parties could use food coloring to test how pollutants spread in groundwater. Many people of all ages and professional backgrounds took the opportunity for scientific exchange with the HDG team and the other participating departments and institutions. Read more
