Research Interests
My main research interest is the understanding of soils and their essential functions such as the production of plant biomass, carbon storage, water filtration and storage, nutrient recycling and habitat for biological activity. I am mainly interested in agricultural soils and sustainable soil management.
As part of the 9-year BMBF funding initiative BonaRes, I am currently coordinating the project BonaRes Centre for Soil Research, in which we network the participants from a total of 11 large research consortia and support the transfer of knowledge into practice and raise soil awareness through various activities. I am also working on the assessment of soil functions at the scale of Germany using indicators and am participating in the development of the systemic soil model BODIUM and its web version BODIUM4Farmers.
