Characterisation of sources of pollutant mixtures
Multiple pollution sources with their specific chemical and toxicological contamination patterns (also called fingerprints) leave their signature in our water resources. We use chemical screening approaches together with data science approaches to characterize these fingerprints and to identify them also in water resources and other receiving environments. A particular focus is on contamination fingerprints of road runoff using for example snow melt as an integrative proxy (Maurer et al., 2023).
In AromaTEX, a DFG -funded project together with RECETOX we analyse contaminant fingerprints from indoor exposure of textiles via laundry to the water cycle with a specific focus on aromatic amines (Goellner et al., 2026).
