Short description

VielFalterGarten is a communication and education model project for the development of biodiversity in urban spaces for insects using the example of butterflies. The project has three main aims.

(i) Educational aim: Knowledge about butterflies and nature conservation design of city green spaces and gardens should be promoted, and empowering citizens through 'learning-by-doing' to carry out protective measures themselves and to get to know butterflies through regular observations. This stimulates citizens to discuss the promotion of biodiversity, butterfly protection, climate change adaptation, changes habit patterns to views of wild herbs / weeds, and motivates them to act in the immediate environment.

(ii) Butterfly protection: Butterflies are supported by the targeted application of feeding plants and nectar sources, planting flower strips and changed mowing regime in private and public green spaces in Leipzig.

(iii) Capacity building and network building: Through the targeted networking of different actors in urban areas, sustainable cooperation is created in order to establish the model project in Leipzig and other cities in the long term.
