New NitrAge project launched: Groundwater age dating supports the reduction of nitrate pollution in Germany
How can the effectiveness of nitrate reduction measures for groundwater be precisely evaluated? Funded by the German Environment Agency (UBA), the NitrAge project is developing a methodical framework based on groundwater age dating—serving as a tool to bring objectivity to the debate and enable a reliable evaluation of groundwater protection in Germany. The project runs from September 2026 to November 2028.

Long Night of Sciences at UFZ Halle: Groundwater, getting to the bottom of it!
The Department of Hydrogeology took part in the Long Night of Sciences at UFZ Halle on 03.07.2026 with an experimental display on groundwater, where interested parties could use food coloring dye to visualize how pollutants spread in groundwater. People of all ages and professional backgrounds took the opportunity for scientific exchange with the HDG team and the other participating departments and institutions. Read more
