AIAMO - Artificial Intelligence And Mobility

Digital Twins for Environment and Traffic The digital twin collects data from the urban environment and transport sector and enables environmentally sensitive traffic control (Image: Houben, generated with the help of AI)

AIAMO is a pilot project funded by the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) with €16.7 million, in which 12 partners are developing an AI-based environmental and mobility management system to make mobility more efficient, resource-saving, safer and needs-based.

This is intended to facilitate market access for SMEs and create the basis for making it easier to make sustainable and safe decisions now and in the future, as well as driving forward the mobility transition in Germany. Mitigating the adverse environmental impacts of transportation and mobility systems, and consequently enhancing urban quality of life, remains a significant challenge for cities and municipalities.

The UFZ is pushing ahead with the planning and implementation of environmental sensor networks to monitor and measure traffic-related emissions and other (abiotic/non biotic) parameters in the pilot regions using automatic data processing and quality control.

Furthermore there will be a focus on analyzing and measurement of environmental and traffic data, in particular air quality data, and modeling of these in a digital twin. This evaluation serves to enable real-time monitoring of various data sources to map and visualize environmental events in high resolution.
