Questions and answers on extreme water events in Germany
Since 2018, Germany has been struggling with a multi-year drought. Very wet autumn and winter months changed the situation in 2023/2024. In north-west Germany in particular, they even led to flooding at the beginning of 2024. In March 2024, after the floods were over, the soil was still soaking wet. This raises many questions, for example regarding the end of the multi-year drought phase, its consequences and the forecasts for the rest of the year.
