WG Integrated bioprocesses
The Integrated Bioprocesses working group designs and develops robust, scalable, bio-based overall processes to increase resource efficiency by preferentially utilising food industry residues and wastewater. The focus is on the use of non-conventional yeasts (e.g. Yarrowia lipolytica) for the sustainable production of industry-relevant oxo- and hydroxycarboxylic acids of the citrate cycle (e.g. citric acid, iso-citric acid, ketoglutaric acid).
Sustainability assessment tools (LCA) are integrated into the process development, making it possible to determine the ecological efficiency at an early stage.
In addition, the development of simplified reactor configurations (e.g. based on IBC containers) and the establishment of non-sterile process control will contribute to the implementation of bio-based processes in industry.
This is intended in particular for the decentralised use of innovative technologies directly at the source of residual materials and waste products.Members
