The pond Schapenbruchteich is situated within the Nature Reserve Riddagshausen near Braunschweig (Lower Saxony). In the winter 1992/93 the water level was decreased to restore the lake. During the water level lowering some small ponds remained. In these ponds only creeping ostracod species could be found. The well swimming Physocypria kraepelini was the rnost successful recoloniser of the pond after the refilling. 13 ostracod species could be detected in the Schapenbruchteich and in a neighboring pond. The occurrence of Candona weltneri and Pseudocandona insculpta is worthy to note.
