Abstract The efficiency of a combined adsorptive and biological treatment of contaminated soil has been investigated in laboratory and full-scale experiments. The technology described is based on the use of adsorptive carrier particles covered with preadapted bacteria. During the soil washing process, the pollutants adsorb to the bioadsorptive carriers and can be degraded thereafter in a separated procedure by populations of specialized bacteria immobilized on the surface of the carriers.
