Abstract | We are developing a sediment treatment process based on the removal of heavy metals by sulphur-acidic leaching. Four operations - purely chemical or microbial leaching in suspension or in the solid bed - were compared with each other. The metals were quickly dissolved by H2S04 in suspension, but this process is unsuitable on a larger scale. Leaching with microbial H2S04 formation needed more time, but during solid-bed leaching it led to technological advantages. |
