Abstract | Development of Decision Support System for environmental applications is very complex and challenging task. Increasing “wickedness” of environmental decision problems, growing number of affected subjects and keen competition between conflicting interests make decisions and decision support difficult. Decision Support Systems have been developed since 70s to help in complex decision situations when tacking with semi- or unstructured problems. Notwithstanding their popularity, the success of DSS development is uncertain and many computerised decision support tools have failed when dealing with wicked problems. The following article describes the development methodology and progress for mDSS, a decision support system for water resource management, which has been developed under the EC 5th FP R&D project MULINO. The mDSS tool is designed to integrate environmental models - especially hydrologic ones - with multicriteria evaluation procedures. |
