Abstract North American Commission for Environmental Cooperation (NACEC) plays a regional role in monitoring, reporting and assisting the implementation of the regional action plans (NARAPs) for persistent organic pollutants (POPs) and heavy metals in Mexico, USA and Canada. Implementation of a two-phase Mercury NARAP (1998, 2000) resulted in extension of the National Atmospheric Deposition Program (NADP) through the Mercury Deposition Network (MDN). Mexico has established two sites in Mexico. Weekly monitoring of rainwater was initiated during the fall of 2003. Mercury is being analyzed at Frontier Geosciences in Seattle, WA, USA. Preliminary data indicate weekly deposition of mercury between 0 and 1375 ng/m2/wk at MX01 (Huejutla, Hgo.) and between 0 and 298 ng/m2/wk at MX02 (Puerto Ángel, Oax.) with average concentrations of 215 and 21 ng/m2/wk, respectively.
