Abstract The petrophysical observation of hydrological processes in the field is often limited to parameter estimations and determinations. Dependencies between different petrophyiscal parameters remain sparsely studied. This work aims for the development of a monitoring concept and observation strategies in the scale of measurement to understand the impact of subsurface saturation changes on geophysical proxies. A methane injection experiment under controlled boundary conditions has been carried out in the north of Germany. We focus on a seismic crosshole set up with parallel transmission where seismic velocity and amplitude are expected to image saturation changes in the subsurface. Our monitoring concept reveals reliable data in good quality that is responding to saturation changes and has developed to a good starting point for further experiments and investigations.
