| Abstract | Co-creation is not a novel concept with regard to nature-based solutions (NBS). NBS are defined as a cost-effective and ecosystem-based approach to solving sustainability challenges and climate-change pressures through embedding a more citizen-oriented engagement within its implementation. Although some co-creation principles and guidelines are scientifically well elaborated, it still needs more effort to make them more feasible to the non-scientific community such as local governments, policy-makers, practitioners, thus enabling them to be embedded in real co-creation processes of NBS. That is why understanding the co-creation pathway and how the types of co-creation tools can be applied in particular cases are of great relevance when implementing the practical aspects of co-creating NBS. For this purpose, a ready-to-use stepwise pathway/guide on how participatory approach can be incorporated into the whole process of NBS co-creation was developed within the RECONECT project and is presented in this paper. In particular, it provides: detailed co-creation pathway to NBS and practical recommendations for its design and implementation;decision-making matrix of tools for selecting appropriate co-creation tools according to the particular co-creation goal, resources and capacities;additional resources to facilitate and operationalise the co-creation process at each stage of NBS development, offered in the form of a Toolbox. |
