Abstract Immission patterns of airborne heavy metals have been analyzed using needles of three different pine species in the areas of Great-Mendoza, Argentina and Leipzig-Halle, Germany. The one- and two-year-old needles were sampled in April/May 1994 in Argentina and January/February 1992 in Germany, respectively. The results as discussed using principal component analysis show both similarities and distinct differences between the immission patterns, which can be traced back to natural conditions as well as anthropogenic sources.
