Abstract | In this chapter, we discuss the use of constructed wetlands (CWs) for
treating Acid Rock or Acid Mine Drainage (ARD or AMD). This review,
rather than being fully extensive, focuses on the chronology of the use
of CWs for treating different types of acidic drainage and the success
and failures of these systems. The chapter also presents a fairly
detailed description of what AMD is and how it forms and also discusses
the mechanisms through which the CWs remediate AMD. |
