Abstract | To mitigate the risks micropollutants may pose to aquatic ecosystems and human health, Switzerland has recently decided, among other measures, to upgrade large-scale wastewater treatment plants with high-end technologies (quarternary wastewater treatment). This upgrade is mainly being funded by a newly introduced wastewater charge. The paper compares the Swiss model with a proposed similar approach for Germany. |
