Abstract | On 1 June 2007 the European Union regulatory framework for the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of Chemicals (REACH) entered into force (Official Journal of the European Union 2007). REACH aims at improving the protection of human health and the environment through a better and earlier identification of the properties of chemical substances. To reach this goal greater responsibility is given to industry to manage the risks of chemicals and to provide safety information on the substances 1. Manufacturers, importers, as well as companies that use chemicals in volumes of one ton and more per year are required to gather information on the properties of the chemicals they apply. |
