Abstract | Carbo-IronĀ® was developed with the goal to overcome significant shortcomings of NZVI for in situ groundwater remediation. The development, characterization, ecotoxicological tests and the first field test of the colloidal composite Carbo-Iron were subjects of the German Fe-NANOSIT project. Carbo-Iron has been tested in the pilot scale for the remediation of a PCE contaminated field site in Lower Saxony, Germany. The results of the field test confirmed the particle performance achieved in the laboratory experiments. The material is now under study in the framework of the EU-project NanoREM where its performance is further optimized. The properties of Carbo-Iron and various improved NZVI will be compared in pilot and field scale experiments. |
