Abstract | The activity of complex microbial communities is essential for the functioning of natural biogeochemical processes but also for human health. We all know about the natural complexity but do not understand the detailed interactions and functions of individual cells. Flow cytometry is a convenient tool to characterize microbial communities and detect functional relevant changes. The principle and successful applications from managed microbial systems are described. |
