| Abstract | This paper is the second of a two parts describing the activities and research carried out during the evaluation and design of the remediation process of the Cencali lagoon in the center of Villahermosa, Tabasco., Mexico. The hypereutrophic status of this water body is mainly caused by the accumulation of large amounts of sediments originated from inflows of urban drainage and wastewater. Therefore, an emergency remediation concept was developed that focuses mainly on sediment dredging. The location of the lagoon, the reduced space available in adjacent zones, as well as the sediment characteristics prevented a traditional process design. For that reason, a process consisting of pump dredging, sedimentation, transport, and drying of sediments was designed and adapted. According to sediment humidity analyses and pilot pumping experiments, the dredged sediment suspension had a humidity between 65 and 85%., resulting in volumes to be removed between 50,400 and 130,000 m(3). In order to control and reduce the volume of transported sediments and thereby avoiding excessive time and costs, a sedimentation technology was designed consisting in four floating-submerging tanks placed in the Cencali lagoon.
