Abstract

The medical relevance of air pollution is usually assessed using findings obtained from 'representative' monitoring stations.

Apart from the fact that these gauging stations are generally designed to measure outdoor air pollution, their representativeness is based on orographic similarities (e.g.

representative valley locations, old buildings/urban structure etc.), whereas indoor measurements are not yet at all regulated or carried out in a binding manner.

Moreover, they are neglected in burden appraisals, even with respect to the time budget.
