Internship opportunities and prerequisites:
The availability of internships depends on available capacity and ongoing projects in the respective departments and is determined individually by the advisors. Initial laboratory experience or a completed bachelor's degree (B.Sc.) is usually required in the experimental research groups.
If you are interested, you can find detailed information and contact details for the respective research units and information about the departments and staff groups. Please send your application directly to the contact persons from the respective department.
Thesis
Are you reaching the end of your degree program?
Would you like to write your bachelor's or master's thesis externally?
Then apply to the UFZ!
We offer you excellent supervision and as much freedom as you need.
Please apply for the thesis via the job offers with the following application documents:
- Application letter
- including your course of study and year
- Time period during which you would like to do your work with us
- Copy of latest diploma/certificate
Prerequisite is that you receive written permission from your university to prepare your thesis at the UFZ.
Would you like to write your thesis in our research institution but can't find a suitable job offer? Then send your application directly to the department of your choice.
Student assistants
Would you like to earn extra for your studies while simultaneously gaining new insights in your field of study?
Or have you already completed your studies and want to orient yourself before you start your research career?

The Voluntary Ecological Year begins on 1 September and ends on 31 August of the following year. This year will give you insights into the work of environmental research and education.
If you are between the ages of 16 and 27 and you want to work in Saxony, please send your application to the Saxony State Foundation for Nature and the Environment (LANU)
(Voluntary Ecological Year application form).
If you want to work in Saxony-Anhalt, please send your application to the Foundation for Environment, Nature and Climate Protection of the State of Saxony-Anhalt.

The UFZ in Halle offers you the opportunity to participate in the citizen science project for butterfly monitoring in Germany.
Activities include the following:
- Input and evaluation of observation data
- Participation in public relations (preparation of the annual report, website maintenance)
- Contact with counting persons by phone, email and physical mail
- Support in organizing events (Junior Camp, butterfly workshop, etc.)
