Lysimeter data are a useful instrument to verify results of simulation models. The lysimeter station in Brandis/ Germany consists of 43 monoliths from different sites of the middle part of East Germany and an own weather station. Percolation water amount is measured every month and there are also data of nitrogen leaching for about 15 years. Thus it is possible to compare these data with simulated data of the model CANDY.

CANDY (Carbon and Nitrogen Dynamics) is a one-dimensional transport model that uses weather data (air temperature, precipitation and global radiation) on daily basis, soil data (texture, wilting point, water capacity, density) and management information (crop, fertilization, tillage) as input for simulation.

Five of the eight lysimeter groups retlect the special Situation in the watershed of the river Parthe. So a transfer from simulation results to the whole Parthe area is desirable to forecast balances of groundwater formation and nitrogen loading under different forms of land using.
