Abstract Human society has constantly undergone changes — not only with respect to quantitative aspects, such as population and its distribution, but also standards and judgements about life’s values and its relationship with the environment. This connection between controlling and protecting the environment can be traced back to sources in the Old Testament in Christian culture: Genesis 1.28 “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth, and subdue it.:..” and Genesis 2.15.: “And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to work it and to take care of it.” We need look no further than here for the roots of an anthropocentric view of the world.
